Bersama Kita Boleh
1 Day, 10 Charities, thousands,of lives impacted
Ten charities from around Kuala Lumpur were selected including children’s homes and refugee centers. Food For Good provided a lunch for all participants and thanks to our donors we provided art supplies and goodies for the children we visited.
We partnered with U-SCHOS students who helped make local arrangements (and built our backdrop for the day that the art projects were displayed on!) as well as MSU students who helped us create an outstanding video and capture photos of our volunteers in action. We had amazing sponsors including Leaderonomics, Microsoft and the beautiful Seri Pacific Hotel who made this possible.
After being inspired to make a difference in our world by a few outstanding local Malaysian speakers the teams were ready to head out to their homes. They gathered their supplies and asked the children to write down their dreams on the paper clouds and words of encouragement on paper stars.
In this video, you’ll see a taste of what happened that day. We laughed, played, created, and spent quality time with adults/teens/children who don’t always have the opportunity to just enjoy the moment.
During the end-of-day wrap up, all teams gathered together to share what touched us. Many locals had not ever volunteered before and now they were excited to get more involved in their community.
Our final art project – a sky filled with dreams and encouragement along with a few individual kids and their personal dreams.
The next day we visited Rumah Hope to play with the children there and present a donation from TWCCTW.
Tuesday May 24
Today we had the pleasure of touring the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur. They hosted our entire team for a delicious lunch and showed us their beautiful property. Then it was off to the Malaysia Association of Professional Speakers on best practice ideas for professional speakers.
Thursday May 26
To raise money for our Kuala Lumpur projects, our team put on a Leadership Boot Camp. Each speaker had the opportunity to present to an amazing audience and it was a day packed with golden nuggets and leadership learnings.
Friday May 27
Next stop was Siem Reap Cambodia. We visited a few new wells we’d sponsored in local villages. We were able to present Iron Fish to the villagers to use when cooking. We enjoyed playing with the children and distributing toys. It was an amazing start to this leg of the trip.
Saturday May 28
Our Siem Reap Leadership Bootcamp was held at the Ankor Palace Resort — it was a packed house! Six members of our team presented and Jana ended out the day with an song written just for the Siem Reap audience.
Sunday May 29th
A wonderful element of our TWCCTW trips is we mix work, visiting projects and site seeing. This day some of our team visited Angkor Wat and we all enjoyed an ATV trip into the villages.
Monday May 30th
Today was a day filled with project visits.
We visited Life and Hope Association, run by Buddhist monks. They train women to sew so they can make a living. When the women graduate, they get a sewing machine.
At Anjali House, which provides schooling, art and performance classes, and services for at-risk children,we played with the children and gave a donation.
At the Future of Khmer Children’s Foundation school for 400 impoverished children, we served them lunch, sponsored by the Food for Good Project, played games and even painted fingernails! We reviewed the new Classroom 2 which we funded and met the new advanced computer skills teacher.
At another branch of the FKC the children sang us the TWCCTW theme song and we served them lunch.
We were able to present a donation to support the Future of Khmer Children Foundation when we were there! Although it was a long day, it was one of the most amazing days on the trip – what a way to end the Spring 2016 TWCCTW tour!
