Rhonda Faught, P.E.
Rhonda Faught is a registered professional engineer who has over 35 years of experience in the highway and transportation arena. She retired in December 2008 as the Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Transportation where she managed a billion dollar annual budget and led 3000 employees. Rhonda is the onlywoman to lead the Department in its 120+ year history.
While Cabinet Secretary, Rhonda changed the Department from a “highway” department to a “multi-modal” Department of Transportation. Rhonda developed, passed legislation and oversaw the implementation of Governor Richardson’s Investment Partnership (GRIP) – a $1.6 billion transportation program where 90% of the highway projects went to New Mexico contractors. This employed over 8000 New Mexican’s and created economic opportunities statewide.
It was through Rhonda’s innovative approach to problem-solving and unique leadership style that she was able to deliver New Mexico’s first commuter rail service – the fastest start-up in the United States. During her tenure, she was able to lead the Department to national recognition for innovation in the reduction of highway fatalities as well as alcohol-involved fatalities.
In 2009, Rhonda started a consulting business, R. Faught and Associates, LLC. Her clientele consists of those who have innovative products and services in transportation industry.
Rhonda is also an international speaker. Her topics generally focus on technology, transportation innovation, leadership and customer service. She has spoken in China, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and the Philippines as well as throughout the United States.
