Education Changes Impoverished Girls’ Lives

It’s been proven that education of girls yields economic and social benefits far beyond the girl and her immediate family. When girls are educated, they not only have better paying jobs and careers, but they help their families and villages improve the quality of life.

Instead of growing up in remote villages affording them little educational opportunity, the girls we sponsor can now break the cycle of poverty. Instead of facing poor living conditions, early marriage, many children, and the risk of being trafficked, these girls have an opportunity for a totally different life.

With education, it is shown that girls marry later, marry better, have fewer children, have healthier children, and be able to contribute materially to the support and well being of their families – and to their villages, even when they’ve moved to take advantage of other opportunities.

TWCCTW works closely with the Good Shepherd Sisters Girl’s Home near Chiang Rai, Thailand. There 60 hill tribe girls live in a loving, nurturing environment and attend junior and senior high school and with your help, the high achievers will go on to a local university.

An annual $1,000 scholarship will sponsor a girl for a year. After the first year, the girl can receive the same scholarship for the following year – if she earns it – by achieving a GPA of B or better.

Recently, TWCCTW granted scholarships to Makee, 19 on the left, and Ming, 18, on the right. Makee is Hmong and wants to be a designer. Ming is Lahu and wants to study computers and business. (That’s Bill Taylor in the middle.) Two cool young women. They’ll help us change the world. Quite the bargain at $1,000 per girl per year, we think.
